CI Online

In order to foster the life and ministry of Catholic clergy, the team of The Christopher Inn International will offer an online resource for priests and bishops: CI Online. Please God, one day soon this resource will be up and running at the service of clergy everywhere.

Here is a broad overview of our plans for CI Online:

CI Online is envisioned as a web-based resource dedicated to assisting priests in continuing the “fiat” to God that is at the heart of their vocation. Catholic clergy worldwide will be able to use CI Online to communicate with each other, share knowledge and advice related to pastoral concerns, support one another in priestly ministry, and engage in ongoing personal formation.

CI Online will avoid entering into the fray of theological and ecclesiastical disputes because it is envisioned as a site which should lift the spirits of all priests. The site will endeavor to present the Church in its teachings, sacraments, and charity as that “pearl of great price” which is a great gift of God to the world. CI Online, while addressing the difficulties and challenges priests sometimes face, will seek to convey the honor and privilege all priests share in their role as “other Christs.”

CI Online has as its target audience Catholic bishops and priests, and access to the site will be limited to Catholic clergy. The website will take full advantage of technologies emerging within the Internet. Content will be well-organized and frequently updated.

CI Online takes its cue from the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, which has released several letters over the past fifteen years on putting the Internet to use for the service of the Church and the new evangelization: Church and Internet and Ethics in Internet, to name only two. Pope Saint John Paul II also dedicated his 2002 message for World Communications Day to the following topic: Internet: A New Forum for Proclaiming the Gospel. Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis have followed in his footsteps.

We believe that CI Online will help to extend the priest’s formation experience when he returns to his place of ministry, and that other priests who have not had the chance to visit The Christopher Inn International will nonetheless benefit via the resources provided online. The site will serve as a model of virtual community at the service of real community.

Chair of Saint PeterOn Saturday, February 14, 2015, the team of The Christopher Inn International will begin a novena in honor of the Chair of Saint Peter, which is celebrated each year as a feast day on February 22nd.

February 22, 2015 will also mark the 15th anniversary of the incorporation of The Christopher Inn International as a non-profit organization.

Please consider joining us in prayer for God’s blessing on this developing apostolate at the service of Catholic bishops and priests!

If you’d like to join us, simply pray the following each day, beginning on February 14 and concluding on February 22:

O Holy Apostle, because you are the rock upon which Almighty God has built His church, obtain for me I pray you, firm hope and burning love; complete detachment from myself, contempt of the world, patience in adversity, humility in prosperity, recollection in prayer, purity of heart, a right intention in all my works, diligence in fulfilling the duties of my state of life, constancy in my resolutions, resignation to the will of God and perseverance in the grace of God even unto death; that so, by means of your intercession and your glorious merits, I may be made worthy to appear before the chief and eternal shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns forever. Amen.

Saint Peter's Basilica, Vatican CityOn Thursday, September 11, 2014, Vatican Radio released a new story about The Christopher Inn International. It includes an interview with founder and director Joan Johnson.

In an age in which the Church is discovering the full meaning of the co-responsibility of the laity, in continuity with the whole history of the Church and in consonance with the Church’s divine constitution, many lay faithful are asking: what can we do to help our shepherds? Seeing the great good that so many priests do, and appreciating the irreplaceable role of service that those in ordained ministry carry out, a small but dedicated group of lay faithful are seeking to provide a space in which priests and bishops can find the encouragement and sustenance they need – a place apart – and yet created with a view to helping priests in their vital service of shepherding the faithful: a place they are calling the Christopher Inn International.

Exaltation of the Holy Cross
The Church celebrates the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14th. Please consider joining the team of CI International in nine days of prayer leading up to the feast day, with the special intention that God provides the donors necessary so that we can acquire property and open our doors to serve priests from around the world.

Here is the prayer we will be using:

Jesus, Who because of Your burning love for us willed to be crucified and to shed Your Most Precious Blood for the redemption and salvation of our souls, look down upon us and grant the petition we ask for: the financial means necessary to acquire property for The Christopher Inn International.

We trust completely in Your Mercy.
Cleanse us from sin by Your Grace,
sanctify our work,
give us and all those who are dear to us our daily bread,
lighten the burden of our sufferings,
bless our families,
and grant to the nations, so sorely afflicted,
Your Peace, which is the only true peace,
so that by obeying Your Commandments
we may come at last to the glory of Heaven.

Amen.

Life is sustained by generosity: first, God’s with us, and then, ours with Him and with others. In this sense, the priesthood of Jesus Christ is a vital conduit of life, as it makes both dimensions of generosity present in the world.

Thank you for your generous support of The Christopher Inn International, in whatever way you feel inspired to give: prayer, spreading the word, or a financial gift. May it inspire and sustain the generosity of the Church’s priests, for the glory of God and the life of the world.

The first Priestly Renewal Program: a resounding success

From Sunday, March 4, through Tuesday, March 6, 2012, a small group of Irish priests gathered at the Adare Manor in County Limerick for the first Priestly Renewal Program conducted by The Christopher Inn International. These priests were sponsored by Catholics in the U.S. as a gift of gratitude for the ministry of Irish clergy in the U.S. throughout the centuries.

The program gave priests an opportunity to come together for prayer (Liturgy of the Hours, Benediction, and Mass), study, and priestly fraternity, all in a very beautiful setting. The topic of the seminar was a recently-released document from the Congregation for the Clergy entitled The Priest, Minister of Divine Mercy. Fr. D Vincent Twomey, SVD, facilitated the seminar.

At the end of the final session, the priests commented on their experience at The Christopher Inn International and shared their thoughts with the team:

“There’s no ideology, just generosity.”

“This was superb! Absolutely superb!”

“How wonderful that there is a family at the heart of this. It is like a home, not an institution.”

“It was a wonderful couple of days spent in fraternity…. For me as a priest our few days spent together was a time of reflection, rest and fraternity… something I think all priests need from time to time.”

Again and again, the priests thanked the team and asked us to thank those who sponsored them. One priest later summarized in an email what they all shared with us:

Renewed thanks to yourself, your family and benefactors for our wonderful time together at Adare. Please be assured that your very good self, your family and all benefactors are remembered in my prayers and Masses. I believe the work the Lord has entrusted to you is very necessary.

Another priest wrote:

I wish to thank you sincerely and all connected with the Christopher Inn movement for giving me the opportunity to spend three days in Adare Manor. It was a truly memorable experience. What struck me was how much the whole operation is inspired by the faith and generosity of so many faithful Catholics in the U.S. May the Lord continue to shower his choicest blessings on all involved in this inspiring project.

It was exciting for the team of CI International to hear the priests confirm so many details of this apostolate’s mission and vision.

To all of our benefactors, who have supported our apostolate with prayer, sacrifice and financial contributions: Thank you for responding to Our Lord’s call to support our priests in such a generous manner.
